It is the favorite rallying cry from the GOP and the right these days. Democrats are all socialists, even Biden, who’s decades long resume consists of moderate politics. Their attack is not just pointed at one policy or politician, but anything the Democrats do or say. It’s a snappy catch-all meant to scare people into thinking that Democrats want some sort of boogie-man communist society, where we all have food stamps with some insidious mechanism for controlling distribution of resources and wealth.

Of course, this has no basis in reality. Socialism means that the government has control of every aspect…

Not that Joe. I’m talking to you, Senator Joe Manchin. The Democratic party won control of all 3 branches of the federal government in the last election, based on the promise that they would get work done. It doesn’t matter that you weren’t up for election, you are in the party that won control and you know it. You are in this position of power, because of the platform that the Democratic candidates ran on.

Now you are throwing your weight around, using the filibuster as a weapon. Here’s the problem. You can’t have it both ways. You can’t just…

As our courts move to restrict and overturn Roe v Wade, I want to take a moment to speak to those who profess to be pro-life. I would like to ask that they do a deep dive with me, to consider whether pro-life polices and talking points actually protect life. My contention is that pro-life policies, spread by pro-life politicians, are a lie. They don’t prevent abortions, and they damage lives.

Protecting life requires doing hard work, beyond social media posting and yelling at people that we are right, because our position is backed by our faith. This level of…

I have been enthralled by The Handmaid’s Tale series on Hulu. During the pandemic I re-watched the first 3 seasons, with the utmost anticipation for season 4, which has premiered this week. It didn’t occur to me to write about why I am so entrenched in this story, until I read an admirable review by Lorraine Ali in The LA Times, titled “‘The Handmaid’s Tale’ is far from perfect. Here’s why I’m not giving up on it yet”.

I can’t imagine why people would leave this show, give up on the story, or not be committed to the journeys and…

I got in an argument with a Boogaloo Boy on Twitter, and it devolved into him calling me a bitch, because I echoed his words, that he needed to further his education on the topics of which he was speaking, namely that Boogaloo Boys is an organization that fosters white supremacy.

It started when I saw his response to Imani Gandy, someone I respect and follow on Twitter:

It bothered me, so I decided to respond and check a few things. First, I wanted to see if it might be a bot, seeing as the name has number salad…

I saw this tweet from Molly Jong-Fast. It’s 100% true, and it’s something I find myself thinking about lately, with the passing of Ruth Bader Ginsburg. Her passing is being met by a right-wing rush to stack the Supreme Court with another pick who will decide cases based on the faith of some over others, and religion not separated from the state. …

It’s really something, how impossible it is for Trump supporters to see how dishonest Trump truly is, in his life and career. I’m wondering if that’s because they aren’t familiar with the concept of failing up. Trump isn’t a successful businessman. Look it up. He has mountains of debt. You really think there isn’t a shady reason he’s fighting like hell to keep his tax returns hidden? No Presidential candidate, since and including Nixon, has refused released their returns. He is the only one.

He hasn’t become some incredible businessman. His teachers said he was arrogant and…

We’ve all had to think lately about fake news, about misinformation, and government obstruction of the press. It hasn’t always been this way. I remember when the news was limited to tv news, radio, newspapers and news magazines. With the evolution of news, to online news delivery, we have seen a new era of news consumption. We used to get our news from limited sources — radio, print, television, and limited news outlets.

Now, the landscape has expanded to include special interest and intentionally biased reporting, seated alongside credibly recognized news and media outlets. Technology has expanded our ability to…

I have a degree in political science. I have worked at a county Board of Elections and a county Democratic Committee. I have done my best to pay attention to the news and to vote. I haven’t always done a great job of helping get out the vote or get involved in campaigns, but I have used my voice to make sure everyone knows the importance of the act of voting.

I suppose you’re reading this because the headline got your attention? Good. Joe Biden was not my first, second, third, fourth — skip ahead — choice for nominee for…

I have been trying to put my finger on it…what has changed. Those who pay attention to the news, and US politics likely know what I am talking about. It didn’t used to be like this. Something changed in the last 20 years. I think it may be the hypocrisy. When the two parties spar on issues, there has certainly always been hypocrisy, particularly in attacking the faults of your opponent, when you have the same ones. But in the age of Mitch McConnell, the GOP has gone full tilt.

It’s no longer an equal playing field, with a veneer…

I have a BS in Political Science, so logically I’ve spent the last 20 years working in the IT field, and the last 10 as a Developer.
